START ACTING LIKE THE PERSON YOU WANT TO BE

START ACTING LIKE THE PERSON YOU WANT TO BE

People do not decide their futures. They decide their habits and their habits decide their futures.

It takes approximately 66 days to form a habit, while it can take anywhere from 18-254 days to break a habit. Good habits are just as addictive as bad habits, but much more rewarding. Try replacing your bad habit with a good habit. One habit at a time.

I'll be the first to admit, I LOVE hitting snooze at 6 am. My intentions the night before are always: "I'm going to wake up early and have a productive morning" and every morning I break that promise to myself. I do sleep the best in the mornings it seems. This bad habit is one of my favorites, unfortunately.

A conference in Atlanta in 2021, I was fortunate enough to see famous motivational speaker and author, Mel Robbins. This was the first time I had heard of The 5 Second Rule. The 5 Second Rule is the idea to act before your mind talks you out of it.

If one of your bad habits includes hitting snooze each morning (like me), try the 5 second rule. As soon as your alarm sounds in the morning, count back from 5. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1! Then jump out of bed. No time to think about how cozy your bed is, or how tired you still are. Think of the action, count back from 5, execute.

Mel Robbins wrote an entire book on this method which I highly recommend.

Break the pattern today or the loop will repeat tomorrow.

You have to break the pattern.
No one else will break it for you.

You have to make the change.
No one else will make it for you.

YOU have to make the moves necessary to escape whatever you’re not wanting for yourself.

Are you familiar with the quote: “Visualize your highest self, then start showing up as her (or him)”?

The first time I read it I thought, “Wow, that's good!”

Meanwhile, I continued to live, act, and exist as my current self. I didn't change.

In other words, the quote means: START ACTING LIKE THE PERSON YOU WANT TO BE. That’s a little more clear (to me at least)

This time, I want you to write the words, “START ACTING LIKE THE PERSON YOU WANT TO BE” at the top of a sheet of paper.

I want you to really THINK about you as your highest, best, happiest, healthiest SELF.

Map it out.

“A day in the life of _________ (highest self edition)”

What time do they wake up?

What do they do when they get out of bed?

What do they eat for breakfast?

What are their habits?

Who do they talk to throughout their day?

What do they listen to?

What do they read?

Do they exercise?

Do they feel good?

Are they happy?

Really and I mean REALLY visualize the person you want to be.

Then I want you to start making small changes in your everyday life.

Start thinking about every move you make - and ask, “does this align with who I want to be?”

Don’t get me wrong, you don't have to change.

But if you want change, it must start with YOU.

When things change inside you, things change around you.

A bad habit can be broken.

A bad attitude can be altered.

A bad day doesn't have to become a bad week.

A bad week doesn't have to become a bad month.

Break the pattern today or the loop will repeat tomorrow.
